Stars Of The ‘70’s Unite For Benefits
“In the wake of the September 11 tragedies, a collective ache was left in the hearts of each Styx member along with a strong desire to help those affected,” said Shaw. “Volunteers For America was born out of the desire to pay tribute to all those affected, many of whom were our fans.”
The Hi Fi Buys Amphitheatre in Atlanta will host the first concert on October 20. Artists confirmed to participate are Styx, Survivor, Mick Jones of Foreigner, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Journey, Bad Company, REO Speedwagon, Kansas, Edgar Winter Band, John Waite, and Mark Farner. Additional performers are expected to be announced.
The second event takes place October 21 at the Smirnoff Music Center in Dallas with a similar line-up.
Proceeds from the events will benefit firefighters, police officers, and the American Red Cross relief efforts in New York and Washington, D.C.
Artists participating in the concerts have donated their time and music, and both venues have donated use of the facilities. In addition, radio and TV outlets in the Atlanta and Dallas markets are providing advertising at no cost.
Tickets will go on sale September 29 at all Ticketmaster outlets.
