The giant scoreboard at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center came crashing down the morning of the band’s December 1 show, causing the concert to be postponed indefinitely.

According to the Birmingham News, the arena scoreboard fell around 7:30 a.m., just as roadies were setting up the stage for the show. Susette Hunter, director of sales and marketing at the BJCC, indicated that an “early investigation suggests that a cable snapped when someone attempted to raise the already elevated scoreboard.”

No one was injured in the accident.

Fliers were immediately posted at the arena complex, and television and radio stations announced the concert had been canceled because of technical difficulties. Even so, some fans unaware of the cancellation showed up at the arena and had to be turned away at the door.Promoters are hoping to reschedule the nearly sold-out concert.

Undaunted, Aerosmith forge ahead with their Just Press Play tour, hitting Illinois December 3 and Dallas on the 5th. They’ll continue around the States with English band The Cult in tow until January 25, when they head to Japan for a six date engagement.
