INXS Tours North America
Thus far, 15 shows have been confirmed. The guys kick their tour off May 30 in Anaheim, Calif., and then head east.
“Much of our career has been spent in America and Canada,” said guitarist Kirk Pengilly, “and it’ll be great to be back playing there again.”
After Hutchence’s death in 1997, the group – Garry Beers (bass), Tim Farriss (guitar), Andrew Farriss (keys, guitar) and Jon Farriss (drums) – took time off to consider the future. Many members went on to pursue individual projects.
However, the group’s love of live performances beckoned INXS back to the stage. In 1999, they were invited to open Sydney’s Olympic Stadium and called on Terence Trent D’Arby to take lead vocals. Then in May 2000, Stevens was signed on.
Stevens, former frontman of Noiseworks, has teamed with INXS for a handful of concerts in and around Australia in recent years. Andrew Farriss said, “No one will ever replace Michael as the lead singer of INXS. At the same time, we all still have a passion to perform and to continue what we love. In the past year, we’ve played some shows with Jon, who is a fantastic singer. It has felt very comfortable and sounds pretty damn good, so it seems a natural progression to perform together for this U.S. tour.”
