On To Something Beta
Fans should “expect a healthy blend of tunes from their latest album, Hot Shots II, plenty of the classic tracks and a visual accompaniment that redefines the marriage of music and cinema,” according to the band’s official Web site.
With leanings toward ambient, funk, electronica, grunge, pop and anything groovy, the men of Beta certainly embrace the unique and un-ordinary. At their live performances, homemade films and instruments, DJs, human beat-boxes, costumes and multimedia visuals abound.
At their January 21 gig in London, the band insisted all those on the guest list show up dressed as aliens for their Star Wars-themed show.
With wacky ideas like that, it’s easy to see why Radiohead were inspired by them and invited the Beta Band to join them on their North American tour in 2001.
After their Radiohead stint last year, The Beta Band returned to the States in the fall for their first headlining tour. Clubs were packed, the word was spread and now they’re back for another go.
