While this is the first time the duo is hitting the road together, they’re no strangers to the non-Van Halen oriented touring circuit. Hagar and his Waboritas band have been a fairly steady presence on the club and theatre scene in recent years, while David Lee Roth and his band had a significant tour last summer.

For those not acquainted with the Van Halen saga, both Hagar and Roth lay claim to being former singers for the band. Likewise, they fell prey to the Van Halen brothers’ axe and were each nixed from the group.

Roth, the first Van Halen voice, had a falling out with the band in 1985 and was subsequently replaced by Hagar. Hagar was cut from the group in the mid-‘90s with Gary Cherone filling in afterward. Keeping score at home? Cherone was ousted at the end of the ‘90s. There’s been talk of Roth reuniting with Van Halen once more, but that has yet to materialize.

Van Halen were left without a lead singer and, eventually, without a record contract when they parted ways with Warner Bros.

Tickets for the Sammy Hagar & David Lee Roth Tour 2002: Songs For Song, The Heavyweight Champs Of Rock ‘N Roll go on sale beginning April 20 for select markets.
