Wilco have just wrapped a European tour, which followed a small U.S. outing earlier in the spring, showcasing tunes from their fourth album, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Although generally pegged as an Americana act, the band has moved in recent years into the pop/rock genre.

Not wanting to miss out on any form of media, Wilco are also the subject of a documentary film by director Sam Jones. “I Am Trying To Break Your Heart” is about the making of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and finds Jones trailing the band through their tumultuous year.

“I wanted to find a band that fit the traditional real band, rather than something that was put together [as] a corporate act or solo act or something,” said Jones of his decision to pick Wilco.

From the first day of filming when drummer Ken Coomer left the band to the end when both multi-instrumentalist Jay Bennett and record label Reprise split with the group, Jones’ film captures the reality of Wilco, and yes, it just might break some hearts.

The film has been accepted at the Los Angeles Film Festival and will open in theatres in New York, Chicago, and LA during the summer months.
