An initial statement on the band’s official Web site read, “Whilst relaxing in the pool, Travis drummer Neil Primrose struck his head and was knocked unconscious.

“He was taken by ambulance to the local hospital in Belfort (France) to receive treatment and to undergo tests.”

Primrose was later quoted as telling Scottish Sun newspaper that he dove into the pool at the hotel, but “it was too shallow and I bumped my head and knocked myself out.”

Early indications of a damaged vertebrae proved correct following an X-ray examination. Primrose is scheduled to undergo an operation July 11 to repair the injury.

Doctors are confident the drummer will make a full recovery, but it’s unclear how long that will take. They expect him to be discharged from the hospital by this weekend.

Shows affected include two in Italy (July 15-16), one in France (July 19) and one in Ireland (July 21). It appears that the band’s two shows in the U.K. in mid-August are still on the books.

Travis had just completed a week of European festivals when the injury occurred on July 7.
