Shows have been confirmed through the middle of the month, with more dates expected. This will be his first tour in six years.

Westerberg is out supporting his fourth solo album, Stereo, which was released April 23. Another full-length album by Westerberg’s side project, Grandpaboy, is out now. The record, titled Mono, reflects the process Westerberg took when recording the new albums; one was recorded in stereo and the other in mono.

With Westerberg’s active return to the stage, the rumor mill has started buzzing about a possible Replacements reunion. The iconic ‘80s punk group split in 1991. Westerberg had been quoted saying, “We’ll get together again one day.”

According to news on his official Web site, Westerberg and bass player Tommy Stinson (now of Guns ‘n Roses) were debating an early 2002 tour of the Midwest that would pick up dates left over from Buddy Holly’s last tour, which was tragically cut short when his plane crashed in February, 1959.

However, Stinson wasn’t able to make it due to other commitments and Westerberg was forced to pull the plug. As for a Replacements reunion, it looks like fans will have to just wait and see.
