Revenge Of The N-E-R-D
It was an all-star jam session at the second annual Shortlist Prize awards show held October 29 in Los Angeles. Three of the nominees – DJ Shadow, N-E-R-D, and Cee-Lo – were scheduled to perform, but several others took the opportunity to hop onstage and join the merriment.
Newbie Cody ChestnuTT gave a little performance of his own, while Iggy Pop took over the mic for a surprise set with Pete Yorn backing on drums, punk rock icon Mike Watt on bass, and The Hives’ Pelle Almqvist and Mike Vigilante covering guitars.
Fiction writer Toure gave a reading from his collection of short stories, “The Portable Promised Land,” with Mos Def singing in accompaniment.
Shortlist Prize winner N-E-R-D gave a rousing performance with ?uestlove from The Roots, Mos Def, and Cody ChestnuTT joining on the final song. Along with the esteem that comes with winning the award, N-E-R-D also took home a $3,000 shopping spree at Guitar Center and $3,000 cash.
