Summer Getaway With The Dead

The Dead are coming to life for a summer tour. The left-over Grateful Dead group – which comprises Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Rob Barraco, Jeff Chimenti, Jimmy Herring, and the newly added Joan Osborne – are taking to amphitheatres across the States for a mix of festival and strictly Dead gigs on their Summer Getaway tour.

Along the way, fans can expect to see support from Steve Winwood, Willie Nelson and moe.

There are still a handful of venues and cities awaiting confirmation, but as of press time, the tour looks to launch June 15 at the Bonnaroo Music Festival and wrap at the start of July. A second leg is expected to run from the end of July through mid-August, although details have yet to be announced.

Dead Tickets will be sold via a lottery system. Orders can be placed between April 3-6, with the successful applicants notified of their win by the 9th. Check out dead.net for the scoop.

This is the band’s first tour under their new The Dead moniker. Last year, when the former Grateful Dead members reunited, they chose the name The Other Ones. However, that was switched earlier this year when the band decided to closer reflect their original band name while preserving the memory of Jerry Garcia.
