Rooney is currently scheduled to traverse the nation for more than a month, hitting most major U.S. cities with shows at well-respected venues including Detroit’s Magic Stick and Washington, D.C.’s 9:30 Club. Two August shows in Japan have also been announced.

The five friends first got together in 2000 and have made a name for themselves on the Los Angeles club circuit over the past year with their Beach Boys/Cars-influenced pop stylings.

They’ve had a bit of built-in publicity; lead singer/guitarist Robert Carmine (formerly known as Robert Schwartzman) is the younger brother of Jason Schwartzman, drummer for Phantom Planet and star of such films as “Rushmore” and “Slackers.”

Shortly after their first show – opening for Phantom Planet – they headed into the studio with producers Keith Forsey and Brian Reeves, while also squeezing in time for some high-profile gigs with the Vines and Weezer.

This summer, they can be expected to perform songs from their new self-titled album, which is slated for a May 20 release date on Geffen/Interscope. Tickets for the North American shows are on sale now, mostly for around $10.
