Ward, age 27, was found dead in his Los Angeles home May 25. The cause of death has yet to be determined pending autopsy, but the general word out is it’s due to an apparent drug overdose.

The Mars Volta had just returned to Los Angeles for a week off between legs of their support tour with Red Hot Chili Peppers when Ward died. At press time, no dates on the tour, which resumes June 2, have been canceled.

“We have collaborated with Jeremy for the past 10 years. He was the driving force of De Facto and an integral part of The Mars Volta who often went unnoticed because he chose to perform offstage,” a statement from the band read. “In addition to music, Jeremy was an incredibly talented writer and painter.

“We are devastated by the loss, but know that Jeremy will continue to be with us in spirit at every show and during the making of every record.”

Ward served as a “sound manipulator” for The Mars Volta, working on the band’s recordings and live shows.
