Held on the Great Lawn, the concert starts at 6:30 p.m. September 24 and is expected to draw upwards of 100,000 people. While Central Park sees a steady stream of artists during the summer, only a handful (Simon & Garfunkel) have ever played the Great Lawn.

Tickets are required, but technically they’re free. You need one to get in, but you don’t have to pay. The band is encouraging people to make donations at the time they obtain ducats.

Money raised will go to the Fund For Public Schools Of New York City and The Music Resource Center in DMB’s hometown of Charlottesville, Va.

Different donation levels in the amounts of $25, $50, $75 and $100 are available, with all shipping and handling charges included in the online sales. Check out DMB’s ticket site at warehouse.davematthewsband.com to make a purchase.

Those who live in and around New York City, particularly in Manhattan, can be on the lookout for AOL’s street teams September 13-22. They’ll be traveling around giving away tickets to the event as part of a promotion for AOL 9.0.

The concert will be taped for an immediate DVD and CD release, so even those who can’t make it live can still participate in the experience.

The show is the last one on the current DMB schedule for 2003.
