In addition, a live video of the concert will be beamed to Iraq, where troops can watch it.

“I’m going to do this show like I’ve never done any show before,” Kelly said. “I have a special place in my heart for the soldiers. They have my utmost respect because if it wasn’t for them protecting our land, none of us would be able to live the way we do.”

Kelly is doing the concert for free, with all proceeds being donated to the Texas Military Family Foundation. Soldiers who have served in Iraq will be admitted without charge, which seems to indicate that others will be charged.

Speaking of donations, Kelly continues to donate proceeds from his 2002 tribute, “Soldier’s Heart,” to charities supporting families of soldiers.

“My admiration for our men and women in uniform has only grown since I first wrote and recorded ‘Soldier’s Heart.'” Kelly said. “It’s a great feeling to know that so many people have found comfort and uplift in its words and music.

“I know people are going to think that R. Kelly is just doing this because he’s got legal problems. But anybody with a heart – and common sense – would know that whether or not I was going through something, I would sing for the soldiers.

“I’m just proud to be able to do what I can, because to me there’s no greater cause than to sing for someone who’s fighting for our country.”
