Ben Folds Solos On
Bandleader-turned-solo artist Ben Folds seems to be settling comfortably into his stripped-down routine. When the Ben Folds Five parted ways in 2000 after six years and three albums together, Folds decided to go it alone, releasing his first official solo album, Rockin’ The Suburbs, the next year.
He toured extensively for the record, most recently pairing with Tori Amos on last summer’s Lottapianos tour. In early 2003, he teamed with Ben Kweller and Ben Lee to form The Bens, a project that produced an Australian tour and a four-song EP.
The new tour starts April 2 in Cleveland, with current dates running through May 8. At present, the itinerary sticks mostly to the Midwest and South, but East and West Coasters shouldn’t fret just yet, as more dates are to be announced shortly.
Fans can look forward to a sneak peek of tunes from Folds’ second solo album (not counting his 1998 effort, Volume 1, under the pseudonym Fear Of Pop), which is scheduled for a summer release.
