For an increasing number of fans, though, the chaotic mix of electronics, mangled samples and noise rock is just what the doctor ordered. The group has become a staple of the too-cool DFA record label, which released the Miles Of Smiles EP in April and the band’s second full-length, Creature Comforts, in June.

They’ll be heading out this August on a cross-country tour with Maryland experimentalists Animal Collective, whose Sung Tongs dropped last month on Fat Cat.

The album is somewhat of an official debut for Animal Collective, although they’ve released at least five previous albums on their own label. The group comprises principal members Avey Tare and Panda Bear with assistance from Geologist and Deakin.

Black Dice recorded Creature Comforts at several different studios, and included a song recorded live on a previous tour with Animal Collective in May 2001.

The tour begins August 15 at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom and stretches through early September. According to Black Dice’s booking agency, additional fall dates are forthcoming.
