Comprising Matthew and Eleanor Friedberger, along with a revolving rhythm section, the Illinois-to-Brooklyn transplants released their debut album last September and have already followed up with their second.

Blueberry Boat, released July 13 in the U.S., finds the group taking the eclectic maelstrom of their debut (Gallowsbird’s Bark) one step further into bizarro-rock opera territory, with drum machines, samplers, and digital manipulation fighting for space with the more “traditional” guitars, drums and keyboards.

The Fiery Furnaces are touring this fall with White Magic on a North American jaunt, beginning September 10 in Boston, Mass., and finishing up in New York City at the Bowery Ballroom two weeks later.

The Friedbergers have been augmented by drummer Andy Knowles and bass/synth player Toshi Yano for this summer’s shows, which have included an Australian run and an appearance at Japan’s Fuji Rock festival.

They’re planning to hit some U.K. festivals before kicking off the North American trek.
