The tour opener comes on the heels of a weeklong stint (October 1-October 8) with Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band and Bright Eyes on the tour.

The venues for the tour are an interesting mix of intimate theatres, amphitheatres and a few arenas. Stops include the Fox Theatre in St. Louis, Nashville’s landmark Ryman Auditorium, a home turf show at Gwinnett Arena in Atlanta, Boston’s FleetCenter, Madison Square Garden in NYC, and The Fillmore Auditorium in Denver.

R.E.M. does two-night stands in Chicago, Toronto and Seattle.

Earlier this month, band confirmed their new record will be titled Around the Sun. The disc is scheduled for release on Warner Bros. Records October 4 (internationally) and October 5 in the United States. The first single will be “Leaving New York.”
