Got A Buck?
It’s his second North American tour this year, and he’s also managed to fit in some European festival and club dates.
Straight outta Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia, Buck 65 (born Richard Terfry) got his start as a hip-hop college radio DJ in Halifax. He spent the next few years honing his skills as DJ, producer and MC and by 1996 was winning widespread underground praise as half of the Sebutones, a duo he formed with fellow Canadian Sixtoo.
His solo debut, Language Arts, surfaced in 1997 and he hasn’t stopped since, releasing no fewer than seven full-lengths in addition to several guest appearances and collaborations, including Sleep No More, a recent project with DJ Signify and Sage Francis.
He’s built quite a reputation with his live shows, which have been known to feature wild storytelling and a live band as well as the traditional two-turntables-and-a-microphone fare.
His eighth album, This Right Here Is Buck 65, is set for release September 28 on V2. It’s his first release for the American label, having had his entire catalog picked up by Warner Music Canada in 2002. The disc consists of reworked versions of songs from his catalog, performed by Buck himself with help from his band, the Savant Garde.
