Boston Gets A New Garden

After a spirited campaign that saw Boston’s FleetCenter auctioning naming rights a day at a time on eBay, the venue has found a new sponsor in TD Banknorth Inc., which will rename the venue the TD Banknorth Garden.

Terms of the 20-year deal were not immediately disclosed, but TD Banknorth will reportedly pay arena owner Delaware North Companies $5 million to $6 million per year.

The 19,600-capacity venue opened in 1995 as a replacement for the Boston Garden. Bank of America acquired sponsor FleetBoston last year but could not reach a naming rights agreement with Delaware North.
