The jazz-rap innovators hadn’t recorded or performed together in a decade, but they’re now hard at work in the studio and gearing up a North American tour of theatres and clubs.

European fans got the first taste of the reunited Planets when the group did a two-week run earlier this year. Their first proper U.S. show was an April 9 showcase at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre, which sold out well in advance.

Their summer tour kicks off June 9 in Cleveland and currently runs for two weeks, with the itinerary heavily weighted in favor of the West Coast. However, several festival appearances are also in the works and the group reportedly plans to stretch the tour to at least 25 dates.

The group formed in the early ’90s and released two acclaimed albums – Reachin’ (A New Refutation Of Time And Space) and Blowout Comb – and won a Grammy before disbanding in 1995. The members – Ladybug, Butterfly and Doodlebug (who now performs as Cee Knowledge) – have spent the last decade working on solo projects, collaborations and other creative endeavors but have largely remained out of the spotlight.
