One-Man Rockabilly Band Dies

Rockabilly cult fave and one-man band Hasil Adkins, 67, was found dead April 26th in his Madison, W.Va., home, where he lived alone. Cause of death was unknown at press time but it did not appear to be suspicious.

“The Haze” gathered a cult following over a 30-year career by playing guitar, harmonica, percussive instruments with his feet, and singing in a multitude of voices.

He claimed to have written 7,000 songs – enough that Norton Records once released Poultry in Motion, a collection of 15 Adkins songs devoted to chicken.

His career saw a resurgence of sorts when The Cramps covered his song “She Said” in the early ’80s.
