7 Is Handy For B.B.

B.B. King was named entertainer of the year for the seventh time in a row, while Mavis Staples and Charlie Musselwhite took home three awards each at the 26th annual W.C. Handy Awards in Memphis, Tenn., May 5th.

Staples won best album and soul album for Have a Little Faith, and took home the top female soul artist award. Musselwhite scored the hardware for best contemporary male artist and best harmonica player, and contemporary album for Sanctuary.

The Holmes Brothers were named top band, Jim Tullio and Jim Weider won top song honors for writing “Have a Little Faith,” and John Lee Hooker Jr. was named best new artist.
