Aussie Live 8 Link Fails

Plans to set up a Sydney link to Sir Bob Geldof’s global Live 8 concert July 2nd have fallen through.

An unnamed investor agreed to fund the $500,000 cost of a concert in Sydney, but pulled out when Live 8 organizers decided it would be impractical to include the Australian footage during the global telecast.

Sources have named Ottawa and Tokyo as potential sites for additional Live 8 concerts, but neither has been confirmed.

A who’s who of the world’s most popular musicians – including Paul McCartney, Elton John, Madonna and a reunited Pink Floyd – are scheduled to perform at the five confirmed concerts. Organizers hope the simultaneous shows in London, Philadelphia, Rome, Paris and Berlin will raise awareness of poverty and convince world leaders attending the G8 conference in Scotland to address the issue.
