Bette Kaye Dies

Bette Jeane Kappmeyer, 84, died in Sacramento, Calif., June 11th. Those who’ve been in the music biz for a while know her as Bette Kaye, one of the more formidable fair/festival buyers of the ’70s.

In 1980, with Don Romeo and George Moffett as partners, Kaye formed Rete – one of the first promotion companies to buy talent in blocks, and Rete was known to purchase up to 60 fair dates for country artists.

Although Kaye stood 4′ 11″, folks in the industry said you could hear the bubbly promoter coming from a mile away.

She is survived by four children, including promoter Phyllis Parsons of The Parsons Company.
