B.I.G. Family Seeks $2.1 Mil

The family of slain rapper Notorious B.I.G. is asking the City of Los Angeles for $2.1 million following the mistrial in its wrongful death lawsuit last month.

U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper declared the mistrial July 6th after three days of testimony. She rejected LAPD Detective Steven Katz’s claim that he forgot he had documents related to the case until his office was searched in June. The judge ordered the city to pay the family’s fees and costs.

Family attorney Perry Sanders Jr. said August 16th the requested amount covers about $1.6 million in attorney fees and about $500,000 in travel and other expenses.

Assistant City Attorney Don Vincent said he hadn’t seen the paperwork yet but $2.1 million seemed excessive
