Rolling Stones Gather Fenway Sod

Rolling stones may gather no moss, but The Rolling Stones can sure tear up a lawn, as Fenway Park officials found after the band’s two-night stint at the Boston baseball stadium August 21st and 23rd.

The Red Sox were forced to delay the start of their August 26th game with the Detroit Tigers by an hour to give the grounds crew more time to repair the sod ripped up by concert fans and damaged by the band’s massive center field stage earlier in the week.

Bosox spokesman Charles Steinberg couldn’t confirm that 40,000 square feet of sod was replaced but said a “significant area” of centerfield was affected.

While Fenway has hosted other big concerts – by Jimmy Buffett and Bruce Springsteen – neither harmed as much of the field as the Stones’ “Bigger Bang Tour.”
