Concessionaire Burned At Petty Concert

A 20-year-old man working at a kettle corn concession stand at Coors Amphitheatre near San Diego was badly burned August 20th during a Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers concert.

“A guy ran out and he was on fire,” a concert-goer told the city’s Union-Tribune. “People started to walk toward the fire. Police or fire officials grabbed fire extinguishers to put it out. … It was a really chaotic scene.”

The fire was extinguished within four minutes, according to the witness, and a helicopter arrived to take the patient within 15 minutes.

The unidentified victim reportedly suffered burns to his arms and torso and spent six days in the hospital. Venue GM David Swift told the paper he did not know what caused the fire and was waiting on a report by investigators.

The kettle corn stand has not operated since the accident, Swift said. California’s federal Occupational Safety & Health Administration is investigating the incident.
