Which Direction, America West?

America West Airlines recently merged with U.S. Airways and its name will be retired, which begs the question: What will happen with Phoenix’s America West Arena?

The name will probably morph to something like U.S. Airways Arena, but an official announcement is still a couple of weeks away.

Facility director Ralph Marchetta told Pollstar that whatever the case, it will be a tough transition after answering the phones the same way for 13 years. The building’s 5,000-capacity Dodge Theatre, however, will be immune from the name shift.

Meanwhile, Phoenix’s Bank One Ballpark is about to announce a new name following Bank One’s merger with JPMorgan Chase.
