PJ Does Latin America

Pearl Jam has returned from a very successful, and very safe, Latin America tour.

The 12 shows in four countries equaled the first South America / Central America tour for the band, and the outing racked up record-breaking numbers and not one serious injury.

OCESA Presents and CIE promoted the tour, beginning November 22nd in Santiago, Chile, and wrapping with two sold-out shows at Mexico City’s Palacio De Los Deportes December 9-10. Bruce Moran, CEO of OCESA, proclaimed PJ’s Latin America tour the most successful one in rock ‘n’ roll history.

“Few artists of this stature devote an entire tour to Latin America, and that alone makes these dates historic,” he said.

All shows were general admission with total attendance of 290,937, and there was not one hospital transport or serious injury. Along with a “far-reaching” security plan, the tour used an “innovative barricade design” to ensure audience safety, OCESA said.

The band apparently stressed the safety issue. Pearl Jam was onstage at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark five years ago when a crowd surge resulted in the death of nine concert-goers.
