KCRW Kidnap Suspect

A music consultant and popular host on Los Angeles’ KCRW-FM was arrested January 6th on suspicion of drugging and kidnapping a 14-year-old girl.

Chris Douridas was released on $1 million bail after being arrested outside a Santa Monica nightclub shortly after midnight. Police say witnesses saw him put a substance in the unidentified girl’s drink and carry her out of the club. The girl became ill before being treated and released at a local hospital, according to a police spokesman.

Douridas, 43, is an influential consultant and musical tastemaker with a Grammy nomination for his work on the “American Beauty” soundtrack. He also hosted PBS’ “Sessions on West 54th Street” for a season.

It wasn’t clear how the underage girl got into the Circle Bar, police said.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office was still gathering evidence, including toxicology test results, before deciding whether to file charges, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“We believe in Chris as a person, and we think he has strong character,” KCRW assistant GM Jennifer Ferro told the Times. “And we also think people are innocent until proven guilty.”
