Raconteurs Change Name for Australia

The Raconteurs, the band featuring Jack White of The White Stripes and singer/songwriter Brendan Benson, will be known in Australia as The Saboteurs.

The move is to avoid any confusion with a Queensland-based band operating under the name. The band will continue to be The Raconteurs in all other countries.

A member of the Queensland band told national youth radio network Triple J that they received a letter from a lawyer about 12 months ago asking if they could surrender their name for a small sum of money.

The band suggested a larger sum. According to the band member, who only gave his first name Dave, the next time they heard from the lawyer, the band changed its name and told them to “lick it.”
