Dixie Chicks Go No. 1

The Dixie Chicks may not have had their latest singles embraced by country radio, but they had a darned good consolation prize.

The Chicks dusted their competitors with their record launch, topping the current album charts for the period ended May 28th with a first week tally of more than 525,000 units sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The next-highest non-compilation album was Angels & Airwaves’ We Don’t Need To Whisper, entering the chart at No. 4 with just less than 127,000 units sold.

The debut of Taking the Long Way was a closely watched affair by music fans and political junkies alike.

As for whether fans will embrace the “Accidents and Accusations Tour,” the jury was out at press time with tickets going onsale June 3rd.
