Promoter Ted Creighton of Giant Productions told Pollstar he refunded about 75 percent of the gate receipts for the Salisbury, Md., show during a two-week window with radio and Internet announcements. But many fans held on to the $45 tickets, after reportedly being told to keep them for a rescheduled concert.

Pollstar contacted management, which didn’t agree with the abbreviated refund window.

“When we heard about this, we were all shocked,” lead singer Johnny Van Zant said in a statement. “We have very loyal fans and are also loyal to them.”

The band did offer to return in October at half-price, but could not come to an agreement with Giant Productions, Skynyrd manager Ross Schilling told Pollstar. The band decided to pitch in along with Comcast-Spectator and the Delmarva Shorebirds minor league baseball club to provide refunds for ticket holders until January 5.

Shorebirds GM Steve Yaros told Delmarva Now that since the July 31 refund deadline, about 20 people have called the stadium requesting restitution. After the extended deadline announcement, previous requests were granted and five or six were issued August 15. But nearly 1,000 people have not yet claimed their refunds, he said.

“The outstanding issue we had was a lot of people who were from out of state because the concert was on the fourth,” Yaros said. “[We] just wanted to make sure everyone had adequate time to get a refund.”
