She’s Movin’ Out
The nature versus nurture argument is likely to get a new workout this fall, as the progeny of the Piano Man hits the road. Alexa Ray Joel, daughter of Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley, will set out on an 18-city tour in support of her debut EP, Sketches.
The first nine shows will take her through cities along the west coast beginning September 24, as she opens for Teddy Geiger and Holly Brook. She’ll break off on her own in October to headline another nine shows in cities scattered around the country.
Joel’s natural musical ability has always been encouraged by her famous parents. She pursued classical piano training at NYU until her love of songwriting and performing won out, and she decided to follow in her father’s footsteps.
She describes the six songs on her EP as a “pop/soul/blues” collection. The tracks are currently available on iTunes and on her web site, www.alexarayjoel.com.
