Mariah Carey HK Show Canceled

The final concert of the Asian leg on Mariah Carey‘s “Adventures of Mimi” tour in Hong Kong, scheduled for October 28th, was abruptly canceled a few days before the show.

The promoter of the show, Concert Asia, posted a message on its Web site that said it “decided to cancel the event immediately due to both the poor response of public ticket sales and also due to specific last-minute demands which we find wholly unreasonable and not with the best interests of Hong Kong, us and also the fans.”

The promoter did not specify the demands but it did claim that only 4,000 tickets had been sold by that point, despite a big advertising campaign.

A day or so later, Mariah Carey’s side blasted Concert Asia. Manager Benny Medina said that no extreme demands were made and blamed the cancellation on the promoter’s inability to pay its advance deposits as agreed.

“He has defaulted several times,” Medina said, referring to the promoter, “right up to the last 48 hours. Literally we tried to hang in there with this guy.”
