Glitter Could Be Released Early

Gary Glitter, the 62-year-old British glam rocker convicted of molesting two Vietnamese girls, may be released early from his three-year sentence as part of the country’s Lunar New Year celebrations, a prison official in Vietnam said January 10th.

Often during this time of the year, terms of inmates with good prison records are shortened.

Glitter – real name Paul Francis Gadd – was convicted last March of committing "obscene acts with children," specifically two girls aged 10 and 11, from the southern coastal town of Vung Tau.

According to Vietnamese law, prisoners can become candidates for early release if their behavior has been good and fellow inmates give recommendations.

Glitter reportedly received almost unanimous recommendations from his fellow prisoners. However, because all prisoners must serve at least half their term, Glitter can not be released before May.
