The first slate of dates on Jones’ tour kicks off February 10 in Easton, Md. and wraps up with an appearance March 12 at the Mosaic Music Fest in Singapore. More dates are expected in the future.

Jones will also be all over the airwaves in the next couple of months. The singer will be featured on an upcoming episode of PBS’ “Soundstage,” which airs February 22, and will make appearances on “Late Show with David Letterman,” “Extra” and PBS’ “Tavis Smiley Show.” She’s also scheduled to be a speaker at South By Southwest in Austin, Texas, March 16.

Jones is describing Sermon, which is due to drop February 10, as Velvet Underground-inspired music with lyrics that are inspired by the real words and ideas of Jesus Christ. She says her goal is to reclaim the message from unpleasant associations people may have.

“People today can’t even hear the name Jesus without tensing up because they don’t want to be associated with the TV evangelists and that lot,” she said. “I just wanted to level the playing field a bit.”
