South Carolina Amphitheatre Revived

A 27,000-seat amphitheatre near Marion, S.C., that has been sitting vacant for three years will begin hosting concerts again this spring.

Owners of the former Carolina Amphitheatre have re-christened it the Carolina Entertainment Complex and brought in a new leadership team composed of industry vets, including Henry Zukowski and Mark Bauman, in hopes of breathing new life into the venue.

The group also has a number of changes planned for the venue, including permanent restrooms and a state-of-the-art kitchen that will make it possible to charge less for food by eliminating the need for outside food vendors.

The shed’s first concert will be held May 10 to coincide with Myrtle Beach Bike Week. The owners expect to schedule eight to 12 additional concerts at the venue this year and expand to a full schedule for 2008.

Plans are also in the works to utilize the site for a variety of uses including car shows, festivals and church events.
