Baez Blocked From Walter Reed

Singer and peace advocate Joan Baez’s offer to perform for recovering soldiers at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C., April 27th was turned down and she says she’s not sure why.

Baez told the Washington Post she was invited by John Mellencamp to perform with him there but was notified by Army officials four days before the gig her appearance wasn’t approved.

Walter Reed spokesman Steve Sanderson told Rolling Stone that Baez’s request to perform came just two days before the date, was not "in the agreement/contract" and would have required "a modification."

Mellencamp said he was told, "She can’t fit, period."
