Royals Drop Shed Plan

The Kansas City Royals have scrapped a plan to build a 9,500-seat amphitheatre as part of a ballpark renovation project scheduled to break ground this fall.

The $250 million plan for the team’s home turf at Missouri’s Kauffman Stadium was to include an amphitheatre beyond left field to host concerts and other events, according to the Kansas City Star.

Jackson County officials told the paper that fan focus groups were less than enthusiastic about the shed.

Upgrades to the ballpark will include a state-of-the-art high definition video board, food court, restaurant, hall of fame, conference center and wider concourses.

The project is scheduled to begin in October with a goal of completion by spring 2010.
