U2 3D @ Cannes
Irish rockers U2 played a two-song set on the steps of Cannes Festival Hall as a prelude to the screening of “U2 3D,” the new concert film described as being so real it seems possible to reach out and touch Bono.
“Happy birthday, Cannes,” the lead singer shouted in French as he saluted the famous film festival’s 60th anniversary.
Directed by Catherine Owens and Mark Pellington, “U2 3D” captures the band during their Vertigo tour performing hits spanning their career.
The film uses the latest in 3D technology, and audience members watch through special glasses that resemble ordinary sunglasses, rather than the red and blue 3D specs of old. It’s due for release later in the year.
