Johns apparently caught the infection after completing a grueling four day gauntlet that saw the band travel from Sydney to Los Angeles to Toronto to New York and back to Los Angeles.

The singer’s physician initially told him the laryngitis would clear up in a day or two, but has now advised him to avoid singing for four to six days in order to be guaranteed of making a full recovery.

The band issued a statement expressing their regret to fans who will be inconvenienced by the postponements.

Silverchair shows in San Diego, Anaheim, Los Angeles and San Francisco will now take place in mid-November at the same venues.

Tickets for the original dates will be honored at the rescheduled shows. Fans can also seek refunds from their place of purchase.

Dates for the rest of Silverchair’s Young Modern World tour are not expected to be affected.
