Wonder performed a number of songs for the crowd, including “Higher Ground” and “My Cherie Amour.”

At this time, the tour spans 13 dates and wraps in Boston on September 20.

“I am looking forward to performing in these venues under the stars,” Wonder said. “We are going to have some wonderful nights of intimate excitement.”

The shows will take place mostly in smaller amphitheatres and tickets start going on sale August 11 through Ticketmaster.

Wonder did a brief tour 12 years ago and has performed a number of one-off shows and special events since then.. His last big national tour took place in 1986.

The 1986 trek involved an elaborate stage show featuring a large-screen TV (a novelty at the time), two rotating platforms, and a bevy of backup singers and musicians.
