Judge Blocks Sun Sale

A Nashville entertainment company says a federal judge has blocked a company from selling master recordings by former Sun Records artists including Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins.

Creative Sounds Incorporated of Sedona, Arizona, had planned to sell the tapes through the Chicago auction house Ocean Tomo.

But Nashville-based Sun Entertainment Corporation sued to block the sale, claiming ownership of the recordings, which date to the 1950s.

Sun Records popularized early rock acts such as Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Cash, Lewis and Perkins. It was started in Memphis by producer Sam Phillips in 1952.
