Richard Jewell Dies

Possibly the most famous concert security guard in history, Richard Jewell was found dead of a heart attack August 29th.

Jewell spotted a suspicious backpack during the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta.

The security guard was working a late night concert by Jack Mack & The Heart Attack at the Olympic town square when he spotted the backpack and moved people out of harm’s way just before a bomb exploded, killing one and injuring 111.

He was honored as a hero last year – long after the media portrayed him as a suspect and shamed him into hiding.

Anti-government extremist Eric Rudolph eventually pleaded guilty to the Atlanta bombing plus three others.
