More Roses For Global Spectrum

Global Spectrum will continue managing the Rose Garden in Portland, Ore. – at least for one more year. The facility management company recently renewed its contract with the NBA’s Trail Blazers and will oversee Rose Garden operations through June.

Short-term renewals are unusual, although Trail Blazers President Larry Miller said the agreement "allows for seamless operation of the arena and affords us time to evaluate the long-term strategy for the Rose Quarter."

Global Spectrum beat out AEG, which was also vying to operate the venue. Vulcan Sports & Entertainment, which is owned by Paul Allen and oversees the Trail Blazers, considered dropping Global Spectrum for AEG, according to the Oregonian. Vulcan’s CEO is Tod Leiweke, brother of AEG President Tim Leiweke.

Blazers COO Mike Golub told the Oregonian Vulcan decided to keep Global Spectrum another year to smooth the transition between the team’s old and new management, and Vulcan will reevaluate arena operations before the end of the contract.
