That’s the new MP3 blog / online record label founded by Engadget and Gizmodo creator Peter Rojas. Described by some media reports as a record label, other accounts described it more as a music blog.

Which doesn’t really matter because RCRD LBL describes itself as “a network of ad supported online record labels and blogs offering completely free music and multimedia content from emerging and established artists.”

But whichever way you pigeonhole RCRD LBL, it definitely was the place to be last week. Furthermore, it’s also the place to be this week. And probably next as well.

RCRD LBL is for those wanting a daily dose of new music. Whether grabbing a new song from a familiar act, or to catch up with what’s currently circulating just under the radar, RCRD LBL is for those wanting to stay ahead of the music curve.

Free and legal, non-protected MP3 downloads are the star attractions at RCRD LBL. During the site’s short existence, it has already featured new tracks from Deadly Syndrome, Thieves Like Us, Glasvegas, Kings and Queens, Grizzly Bear and many other artists and bands trying to capture your attention.

Because the site is ad-driven, rest assured, bands and artists are being paid for their downloads. But at RCRD LBL, exposure is the driving force, and chances are you’ll find plenty to like (and download) even if you’re browsing the site with one eye while watching out for your boss with the other.

“The artists like actually getting paid, and there’s no weird, fuzzy, major label math about it, and that’s really appealing,” RCRD LBL founder Peter Rojas told Wired / Listening Post blogger Eliot Van Buskirk. “They like how straightforward and transparent it is. Their music is already out there for free, so what we’re doing is making them more comfortable about putting it out there, doing something that’s in a way in their own best interest, and not feeling like they have to bite the bullet and put it out there and not make any money from it.”
