Melanoma Sidelines E Street Band Keyboard Player
Danny Federici, an original member of the E Street Band, is taking a leave of absence from the Bruce Springsteen tour while he receives treatment for melanoma.
Charles Giordano, who played with Springsteen in the Sessions Band, will fill in for Federici until he returns.
Federici has played with Springsteen since the late ’60s, adding organ, glockenspiel and accordian to hits like “Hungry Heart” and “4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy).”
Springsteen expressed his concern and good wishes for his fellow musician, saying, “Danny is one of the pillars of our sound and has played beside me as a great friend for more than 40 years. We all eagerly await his healthy and speedy return.”
The singer, the E Street Band and fans paid tribute to Federici as the band left the stage at Boston’s TD Banknorth Garden November 19.
