A Bit Of Bjork

Exit Festival’s Bojan Boskovic is keen to play the whole thing down but the media may make much of Bjork telling Japanese audiences that she’d like to dedicate her song "Declare Independence" to the people of Kosovo.

"We’ll welcome her as we welcome all artists," he told Pollstar a couple of hours after NME journalists asked what effect Bjork’s comments may have on a Serbian audience that would prefer Kosovo didn’t split. The oddball Icelandic superstar is due to play Exit Festival (July 10-13).

His country’s opposition to Kosovo declaring independence isn’t a territorial thing, it’s just that unilaterally declaring it right now might hamper the country’s efforts to join the European Union.

"I don’t think there will be a problem. We are not that sort of people," he said. "We have had years of war and political argument in the ‘90s and we don’t want to go back to it."

A skyward glance was his only reaction to being asked if he’d rather Bjork hadn’t said anything about Balkan politics.

Boskovic chaired the ILMC’s Festival Forum panel in London March 8.
